Travel to Seoul: Part 1

South Korea is one of countries that most of the tourists wish to travel because of the K-pop music cultures and dramas. Without hesitation, my girlfriend and I went to Seoul, South Korea for 8 days 7 nights in October 2024. The reason of why we select Seoul is because it offers unique and substantial experiences for every travelers because of its ancient palaces and tranquil temples to its towering skyscrapers and vibrant street culture. Meanwhile, it is also one of our bucket list that explore one of the country together in our life.

We went to Seoul in Autumn season. This is because we want to experience the weather and enjoy the view of Seoul during the season. After packed our luggage and documents (Passport, K-ETA, flight tickets and Q-code), we are heading to KLIA 2 Airport.

To us, we had prepared this Seoul plan for a few months and it is really exciting when we were heading to airport for travelling.

Day 1:Incheon Airport terminal 1> Chungmuro Station > Dongdaemun

After 6 hours flight, we have arrived Incheon Airport Terminal 2 in the morning. Then, we went to Incheon Airport Terminal 1 via express train. Without hesitation, we walk around outside of the airport to enjoy the view and experience the weather there. The weather is quite cold with the cold breeze.

Afterwards, we bought T-money cards and Arex tickets heading to Seoul Station in order to reach our hotel near Chungmuro station.

The hotel that we stayed is New Chonji Hotel which is quite convenience for us to go to train station and convenience shop nearby. Needless to say, the service and cleanliness about this hotel is good which is out of our expectation. After we taken a short break, we have walk around the town, familiar the train station location, and also experience the pace of life in the town. The train station within the Seoul area got underground market and convenience shops. Therefore, it is really convenience for us while staying if we wants to buying daily goods and foods.

The next destination that we went to is Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) which is a major urban development landmark in Seoul. We went there at night, so we can enjoy the night view of DDP which is unique and futuristics because of its curve design.

(How to go there? If you are staying at New Chonji Hotel, walk to Euljiro 4-ga station (Line 2)>Take train>Dongdaemun History & Culture Park)

Day 2:Gyeongbokgung Palace> Bukchon Hanok Village>Insadong Culture Street

(How to go there? If you are staying at New Chonji Hotel, walk to Euljiro 4-ga (500 m) (Line 2) > Euljiro 3-ga > Transfer to line 3 > Gyeongbokgung station)

On day 2, we went to Gyeongbokgung Palace as a good start of the day. This palace can be considered as "must visit" destination because of its history culture, stunning architecture, and serene atmosphere. It consists of main gates, outer court, inner court, palace of the crown prince, pavilions and bridge. There are two options to enter the palace, which are either buying admission ticket (3000 won for 1 person) or wear hanbok (it depends on the shop). Although it is crowded with tourists, but the experiences is good because of the palace view and the historical atmosphere around there.

Frankly, to me, the best view is Gyeonghoeru Pavilion because of its nice landscape.

To capture photos, we went for walk around palace so that we can take a nice photo as memory. This is a good place to visit if you are staying in Seoul.

The next destination we went to is Bukchon Hanok Village, which is also one of the popular tourist destination in Jongno District. Most of the tourists will visit this place to capture photo because of its
alleyway of traditional houses lining the street.

(How to go there? If from Gyeongbokgung station, Take Line 3 (Subway Daehwa) > Anguk Station> Exit through exit number 3 and walk about 200 meters to the signboard indicating the way to Bukchon Hanok Village (Open Naver Map apps for walk direction) or Take Uber if you are not preferred to walk by downloading the Uber apps)

Last but not least, we went to Insadong culture street to enjoy the night view of the street and have a short break in a coffee shop before we back to hotel.

(How to go there? If from Bukchon Hanok Village, Open Naver Map apps > walk back to Anguk Station > Type Insadong Culture Street in the apps> Walk around 10 minutes to the destination or Take Uber if you are not preferred to walk by downloading the Uber apps)

Day 3 Myeongdong > Namsan Park > N Seoul Tower

On day 3, it was rainy day, we went to Myeongdong street in the afternoon and at night. It is a shopping street and if you want to buy souvenirs, junk foods, experience the street foods, shopping, looking for K-pop music album, photo cards, posters and so on, it is one of the good place to visit because you can reach by train.

How to go there? If you depart from New Chonji Hotel, walk to Euljiro 4-ga station> Train train towards Euljiro 3-ga station (Line 2)> Change to Line 3> Chungmuro Station> Change to Line 4> MyeongDong Station> Walk around 3 minutes to MyeongDong street

Although the weather is bad on that day, it won't our plan to go to Namsan park and N Seoul tower. Both of this places are good to visit because of the scenery. Because the places cannot be reached via train or on foot, we have booked Uber (Above 10,000 won) to reach Namsan Park first so that you can walk towards the N Seoul tower afterwards. Another option is you can take cable car towards the tower if you want (Around 12,000 won - 15,000 won for 1 person).

Namsan Park

N Seoul Tower

In parenthesis, it is good place to go in the morning if you want to jogging or exercising within the Namsan park. After we have walk through the Namsan Park and capture N Seoul tower photos, we go back to Myeongdong via Uber.
Overall, between the day 1 until day 3, the travel experience is great. Although we have language barrier and some culture barriers at the beginning, but we still can visit the destinations by using the Naver maps and English signboard.
