Passport Renewal 2023

Two weeks ago, I went to Putrajaya Passport office to renew my passport. It located at Menara Ikhlas, Putrajaya. To avoid long queue, I reached the office around 6.30 am before the operation hours. Luckily, I have reached the office early, because some of the people were waiting outside of the office. Around 7.00 am, it is already long queue and crowded with people.  Preferably, you need to come and wait in front of the office as early as you can otherwise you may need to come next time if the maximum number is reached.

Around 7.30 am, an officer came out and explained briefly about the operation hours and type of requests will be handled by the officers during weekend. At 8.00 am, all of the people can go to level 3 to renew passport or follow up any other request. It is crowded with people early in the morning, I thought it should be less people since most of the people are doing the passport renewal near Pudu Sentral but it is not. After 1 hour, it is my turn to renew my passport. The service is quite fast, after thumb print and taking photo, the officer already informed me that I wait for the call from another counter to settle the payment. Once the payment is done, you have to wait for 1 more hour to take the new passport. You can wear formal shirt or black t-shirt (Preferable) with trousers while taking photo.

While waiting for the passport renewal, you can go down and have a breakfast at Family Mart or Gloria Jean's Coffees cafe if you want. It is better that you can bring your pending works or book to go there to complete it while waiting for the passport renewal. Around 9.50 am, I go back to the office and waiting for the call to get my new passport. After I have do some verification and signed the passport, I left the office around 10 am.

Passport Renewal Process

1. Take the queue number from the officer

2. When it is your turn, you have to go to counter and the officer will guide you to do thumb print and take passport photo

3. Once it is done, you need to settle the payment and take the new passport at another counter

4. Normally, it will take around 1 hour to process your passport document

Few things to take note before you go to Passport office for passport renewal:

  • Come early to the office around 6.30 am if possible
  • Wear proper attire
  • Passport renewal price is RM 200 for 5 years (Cash is not allowed)
  • No need to bring blazers because it is already provided in the office
  • Don’t make up while doing passport renewal
  • Bring your IC (If you want to do new passport but they need IC photocopy, you can go photocopy shop inside the office if you forget to do so)

Overall, the passport renewal process is quite fast and efficient, it only took me around 2 hours to queue and get the new passport. If you guys want to renew the passport at Putrajaya office, please come early before 8 am if possible otherwise you have to wait a long time to renew your passport.
