PRINCE2 (Project in controlled
environment) Agile foundation examination is about testing your understanding
about project planning blended with Agile values, principle, process and
environment. This exam is suggested to take it if you want to pursue your
career path in project planning. Last month, I have taken this exam and it is
quite challenging for me to prepare this exam because I need to work during
week day and sacrifice weekend to do the revision. Anyway, this examination
make me realize that project planning need to consider various type of risks,
factors, and uncertainty in order to deliver the project successfully.
About this PRINCE2 Agile foundation exam,
based on the slide given by coach, actually it only consists of 3 chapters, but
in textbook, actually it contains around 21 chapters and it is advisable that
you refer the textbook while reading the slides in order to avoid any details
overlook. As compared to ITIL v4 foundation, there are many processes and
techniques that you have to understand and it is better take you take around 2-
3 months to prepare this exam. Here are the terms that you have read and as
follow:
Prince2 Principle
- Continued business justification
- Learn from experience
- Defined roles and responsibility
- Manage by stages
- Manage by exception
- Focus on products
- Tailor to suit the project environment
PRINCE2 Theme
- Business case
- Organization
- Quality
- Plans
- Risk
- Change
- Progress
PRINCE2 Process
- Starting up a project
- Initiating a project
- Directing a project
- Controlling a stage
- Managing product delivery
- Closing a project
- Next, you have to read the Prince2 management products and roles.
For Agile, you have to read the scope
below:
- Difference between project and business as usual (BAU)
- Agile framework such as Kanban, Scrum, Devops, Scale, etc
- Agile product description
- Agile iteration
- Prince2 Agile delivery team
- Agile estimation
- Burn up and burn down chart
- Agile communication
- Agile behavior
- Agile focus area
Last but not least, once you have
understand all of the term and process, you have to read through how the
Prince2 and Agile are blended together for project direction, project
management, and project delivery.
For me, I have taken around 3 months to
prepare this examination and here is my suggested steps to prepare this exam:
- Plan your study schedule after read through the course materials
- Find a quiet place to study
- Read the chapter by chapter and write down which part that you don’t understand and then study again
- Do personal note based on the slides and textbook provided by the organization so that you can do the revision quickly by reading key point
- Do the sample papers to test your understanding
- Don’t burn the midnight oil, prepare to study the exam early so that you won’t miss out any key points or confusion
- Study your notes and sample papers before the examination day
Frankly, during exam preparation, there
are many issues faced by me because I need to work and solve daily stuff during
weekday. Meanwhile, if the issues is not resolved properly, I have to postpone
my revision plan. Thankfully, the effort is not wasted, I have passed the exam
although it is not quite high score. After preparing this exam, here is my takeaway
lessons:
- Use your time wisely
- Run for your own race
- Don’t compare yourself with others
- Exam is not everything, if you feel overstressed, take a break and form up a better plan to prepare the exam
- Learn to prioritize your works by forming up need to do list
- Learn to adapt the exam environment by balancing the work and lifestyle
- Sometime if you are facing difficult situation, don’t feel upset and suffer, because this situation is making you to become another better person
In conclusion, I personally suggest that
PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam is good to take if you want to pursue your career
path in project planning. But if your job volume is high every day, plan your
time wisely to take this exam because this exam is a bit difficult than ITIL v4
Foundation. Lastly, good luck for those are going to take this exam.
