After leaving university, every undergraduate will seek to find ideal job to gain a high salary. Undergraduate will expose to the real competitive world to survive, taking extra courses or further study to intensify them for a high job offer and improving living standard. Work for money always the main purposes for living. Although undergraduate has their own knowledge and skills in their own related field, certain of them will review back whether this job can add value to their living or not. Meanwhile, be an owner of business or employee of a company is better in improving living quality? To me, I have my own perception between becoming a business owner or employee of a company. By the way, working for a company or creating a business is depending on the vision of the person in his life.
For a business owner, developing personal business in a market will bring a high return in profitability to himself. The advantages of creating own business are working hours are flexible, high returning profitability, develop the business idea without restriction, and enjoy big success if your business gain high reputation from the public. Nevertheless, it contains disadvantages which are high risks, high-cost pressure, high-stress level, and criticism from publicity. I still remember I am working in a supermarket during semester break. The owner of the supermarket has his own branches at different location. It seem success and profitable in front but he has faced a lot of obstacles behind. Rental fees, tax pressure, labor problems, and inventory management. All of these seem like a "big stone" put on the shoulder of the owner. If didn't manage properly, it will cause loss of profits in the end. It makes me realize that, if you willing to bear the risk and cost, think strategically, and have a long term plan, you can success in the end but you have to give commitment in your business vehemently. Simply to say, people who are willing to bear risks and cost to do the job that they like will not think too much the risk that they face now and present.
On the other hand, working for a company is totally different living as compared to developing own business. The advantages of working for a company are fixed salary provided, great employee benefits offered by the company, every work is distributed to the different department, lack of dealing costs and risks pressure in business, and job security. About disadvantages, it has high bureaucratic level, rigid working hours, job stress in adopting multitasking, and suffers doing the jobs that you don’t like. For people working the job that they don’t like, they will always face the problems about setting a goal and exposing in new tasks due to job stress and anxiety.
Selecting your own career is very important to represent yourself in this society. This is because a career that you choose can determine the future direction and define who you are. Actually, in living, we cannot deny that not 100% of people choose the career that they love for a living because of environmental factors. Nevertheless, at least they are taking responsibility for their living to struggle for better living for family and thyself. Therefore, we should not laugh and overlook their works due to low salary and say no future to the person working for a company. Instead, we should respect the job that they develop and hope for because there is no perfect person in this world. In addition, great income from your own business is showing your contribution of working instead of mental maturity in life. Time can prove everything.
Therefore, to me, having a clear direction is playing an important role in building your future path. After passing through a lot of obstacles in job interviews and market research, at the present day, I received a job position working in a big company. Working in a big company always got the pressure in absorbing new knowledge, adopting new environment and perform high-quality tasks in front of the manager. Anyway, I think I should be grateful that I have a job to do and gain salary to think about my future direction. To me, after obtained a lot of advice from lecturers, parents, and friends in selecting job career, the most important is, you should think about yourself that which career that will make you have the passion to chase for. This is because, nobody will care about your living, only you have to respond to your living. "Never throw sands in other people bowl," because success also come by the support and help of people. Lastly, for the fresh graduates, for those are stepping to the society, here are some advice I hope are useful to you:
- Don't compare yourself with others, you are unique and extraordinary
- Be grateful everything you have now
- Keep your living simple
- Spend your time in the activities that you like
- Set short term and long term goal based on SMART (Specific, Measurable, Assignable, Realistic, Time-related) concept
- Just be yourself！
Working for a company or developing your own business always has the setback and adversity behind that will cause you feel depressed in the reality, but actually every difficulty can help to create value for yourself to truly define who you are in your life!
